OBC 2024 Coverage

Last updated: June 13, 2026

Tenet indexes the Ontario Building Code (OBC) 2024 edition — every part, division, and referenced supplementary standard available in our knowledge base. This page describes what content is searchable and citable in answers.

Tenet is not the official Ontario Building Code. In any discrepancy, the official source published by the Government of Ontario prevails. Always verify critical requirements with the official code and your authority having jurisdiction (AHJ).

4. AHJ considerations

Building requirements vary by municipality. Tenet flags known regional variations when relevant — for example, Toronto-specific amendments or Ottawa snow load references.

  • City of Toronto
  • City of Ottawa
  • Regional variations flagged in answers when applicable

AHJ flags are informational only. You are responsible for confirming requirements with your local building department, fire department, and other authorities.

5. What is not covered

Tenet focuses on the Ontario Building Code compendium. The following are outside our indexed knowledge base:

  • National Building Code (other provinces and territories)
  • Full municipal by-laws and zoning ordinances
  • Conservation authority requirements
  • Fire department operational policies
  • Permit office submission checklists
  • Utility connection requirements
  • Federal regulations outside OBC scope

6. How citations work

Every answer links back to the exact OBC clause or supplementary standard section. Inline references appear in the response text, and a sources panel shows the full citation with a link to the source document when available.

Example reference format: OBC 9.8.8.3.(1)
