Tenet Documentation

Last updated: June 13, 2026

Learn how to use Tenet — from your first question to projects, citations, and plan-specific features. New here? Start with the quick start guide below.

1. Quick start

  • Open Chat from the top navigation or homepage.
  • Ask a question about the Ontario Building Code — include the building type or part when relevant.
  • Read the answer and check the cited OBC references.
  • Open source links to verify against the official code and your AHJ.

2. Asking questions

Specific questions produce better answers. Include context such as:

  • Building type — residential, commercial, mixed-use
  • Applicable part — Part 3 (large buildings) vs Part 9 (housing and small buildings)
  • Project location — for AHJ-specific considerations
  • The exact requirement — guards, egress, fire separation, structural loads, etc.

Example prompts:

  • What are the guard height requirements for a Part 9 residential deck?
  • Fire separation between a garage and dwelling unit — Part 9
  • Egress width requirements for a Part 3 assembly occupancy

3. Understanding citations

Tenet grounds every answer in the Ontario Building Code. Citations appear inline in the response and in the sources panel beside the chat.

  • Inline references — clause numbers like OBC 9.8.8.3.(1) embedded in the answer text
  • Sources panel — full citation list with links to source documents when available
  • Supplementary standards — SB references included when the code delegates to them
Tenet can make mistakes. Always verify critical code requirements with the official OBC and your authority having jurisdiction before relying on an answer for a permit, inspection, or construction decision.

4. Projects

Projects let you organize chats by job site or building. Use the project selector in the chat sidebar to filter conversations or assign new chats to a project.

  • No project — general questions not tied to a specific job
  • Create a project from your profile page with a name and description
  • Filter the chat list by project to find past conversations quickly

Free accounts include 1 saved project. Pro and above include unlimited projects. Compare plans

5. Chat history & limits

  • Guest — 3 questions per day (AI replies do not count), no saved history
  • Free account — 10 questions per day, 30-day chat history, 1 project
  • Pro & above — monthly credit pools, unlimited chat history and projects

Sign in to unlock chat history, projects, and higher daily limits. Guest mode is available without an account for quick lookups.

6. Credits

Paid plans use a credit system. Each question consumes 1–5 credits depending on complexity, context length, and attached documents.

  • 1 credit — short questions and quick code lookups
  • 2 credits — moderate context or longer answers
  • 3 credits — substantial analysis, PDFs, or detailed responses
  • 4–5 credits — heavy context, large files, or very long chat historyComing soon

See the pricing page for monthly credit allowances and add-on packs.

7. PDF uploadsComing soon

This feature is not available yet. The details below describe what's planned for a future release.

Pro and Pro+ plans support uploading PDF documents for analysis alongside your questions. Upload drawings, specifications, or code excerpts to get answers grounded in your project documents.

PDF uploads consume additional credits based on document size and analysis depth.

8. Compliance reportsComing soon

This feature is not available yet. The details below describe what's planned for a future release.

Pro plans include compliance report generation — structured summaries of code requirements relevant to your project context.

Compliance reports are informational summaries, not permit-ready submissions. Always review with a qualified professional and submit to your AHJ as required.

9. Drawing analysisComing soon

This feature is not available yet. The details below describe what's planned for a future release.

Pro+ and Business plans include drawing and blueprint analysis. Upload floor plans or construction drawings to ask questions about dimensions, assemblies, egress paths, and code compliance.

Drawing analysis uses the premium AI model and consumes more credits per question. Results should be reviewed by a qualified designer or engineer.

10. Account & billing

  • View your plan, usage, and invoices on the profile page
  • Upgrade or change plans from the pricing page
  • Add-on credit packs available on Pro, Pro+, and Business plans
  • Payments processed securely via Stripe — Tenet does not store card details
